Historically speaking, creating crowns is a long process that begins with taking an impression in office, providing a temporary crown while waiting for an offsite manufacturing and milling lab to process and return the permanent crown which requires a return visit to fit and affix the crown to the patient's tooth.
CEREC greatly improves the patient experience. It removes the need for uncomfortable impression trays or annoying temporary restorations and replaces them with a convenient same-day service. One that delivers the sort of precise-fitting, natural-looking restorations.
Step 1: Scan
Patients are spared the discomfort of a conventional impression tray. Instead a CEREC Primescan or a CEREC Omnicam is used for precise 3D images in natural color.
Step 2: Design
After analyzing the complete scan, the CEREC software generates outstanding restoration proposals. You and Dr. Carreira are able to review proposals in a simple and visually appealing user interface. This gets your crown to the production stage faster.
Step 3: Produce
The in-office CEREC grinding and milling unit and CEREC software are optimally matched. Milling/grinding the (full zirconia) restoration design is extremely precise, giving the restorations smooth surfaces, edges and very fine fissures all during your office visit.
Step 4: Sinter* & Glaze
Full-contour zirconia restorations are sintered and glazed chairside in the compact CEREC SpeedFire. The induction technology allows for unparalleled short sintering and firing times.
*Sintering is the process of compacting and forming a solid mass of material by heat or pressure without melting it to the point of liquefaction.
By opting for the CEREC method, you may be able to have your permanent crown made onsite, in one office visit, in about 90 minutes. If your restorative dental needs include a new crown, call us today at (207) 947-4767 or schedule an appointment with Dr. Carreira.
